Day 17 Bridgwater to Glastonbury
Kilometers: 27
After breakfast I packed up and walked to the chiropractor. It was a short walk from the hotel and I was there in plenty of time. Marcia, the chiropractor, seemed to find out what was wrong fairly fast, something with the sacroiliac joints. I know I've had problems with them before. I just hope I'll be fine for a while now! "Motion is lotion" the receptionist said, very true!
I took a taxi to the bus station. It's not far, but I know I'm not supposed to carry a pack afterwards. I was in plenty of time for the bus and we were soon on the way. From the bus I could see where I would have been walking, it seemed like it would have been a very nice walk 😟 On the other hand I now had a lot more time in Glastonbury! After leaving my backpack I walked to Glastonbury Abbey. On the way there I talked to some people when all of a sudden one of them said "I have a good feeling about you. I'm going to give you an entrance ticket for the Abbey". I almost started crying! I told them about my charity walk and they were so amazed!
Glastonbury Abbey. Before the dissolution of the monasteries it was the second largest church in England.
Shortly after taking that photo my phone froze. Something similar happened a couple of years ago, that time the phone started after a couple of hours, I hoped it would this time as well. I was now walking with a tour group, the tour was free and very entertaining. The guide was a retired actor who had grown up with the abbey grounds as her playground and when she retired she offered her services to the Abbey. The "short" tour lasted an hour and when it was over I walked to the library to see if I could contact my husband. After explaining my situation to the librarians I took out my phone. Lo and behold, it started again, after being dead for over two hours!
I continued my walk around Glastonbury and it was now time for the Glastonbury Tor.
Once more I was advised not to walk the footpath, but this time I did anyway, I knew how boring the road walk would be. The path was perfect! Until I got to the actual Tor, that is, where the path is steep, sloped sideways and a bit narrow, it was also very windy. As I neared the top the combination of strong winds and tired legs was getting difficult. Fortunately there was a young woman who helped me the final steep ascent ❤️
Once at the top I took a few pictures and then walked back down the other side to Glastonbury.
I can't believe I ate a whole thick crust pizza! I ordeted it without tomato sauce and thought it would be boring, but it was very good. Skipping the tomato sauce didn't help, however, I think I got an OLP reaction either from the pineapple or the wuite crusty crust.
I walked approximately 7-8 kilometers this afternoon, with a steep ascent. I just hope it didn't ruin my back again.
All in all a lovely day!
