I was so happy for the portable radiator, my room was nice and warm all night! I packed up and after breakfast I set off for Dartmoor. Dartmoor is quite large and I would only get a taste of it in one day, but the weather was great, not too warm and sun every now and then. The morning was dark, but there was no rain until later. But soo windy! I had to wear both windbreaker, rain jacket and rain pants. And both hoods up.
On the way to my first stop, Brat Tor.
River Lyd. This is where a ford used to be, hence the name Lydford, the name of the village where I stayed last night.
From Great Links Tor I could see a path headed in the direction I wanted to go far away, so I walked pathless until I reached it, and it turned out to be a great road that I could follow for a while. This was especially nice since it just started to rain. It only rained for about ten minutes, but that was enough to realize that my rain jacket isn't waterproof, even though I washed and re-proofed it before I left home. I'm glad I brought my poncho as well!
Meldon Reservoir. I remember the first time I saw it back when I was 15 years old, I had never seen a large dam/reservoir before and I was so impressed!
A public Bridleway. Made for horses, which means that it can be a lot muddier and quite wetter than footpaths usually are.
My path would now take me to the actual dam, but there were no signs and I didn't want to trespass so I followed the Granite Way to Okehampton. Crossing the Meldon Viaduct I caught a glimpse of the dam. From Okehampton it was roads for 4 km/2.5 mi up to Belstone, a lot steeper than I remembered 😂.
My left foot gave me quite a scare the other day, but has been fine all day today. The next couple of days will probably be a lot of road walking, depending on the weather, let's hope the foot doesn't get worse.
