Day 36 Glossop to halfway to Hebden Bridge - Littleborough perhaps?
I decided to stay at Travelodge in Glossop for two nights. It was very nice and quiet, and I could walk with a very light pack and try to get as far as possible. Storm Dave was still around with rain and hail and increasingly windy as the day wore on. Today was so much colder than yesterday, I only took one photo all day!
When I returned to Glossop I went straight to Costa to get a hot chocolate and warm my fingers, then to get breakfast for tomorrow, but found everything closed. Costa opens at 8, so that's what I'll do.
Upon returning to the hotel I found that a Velcro pad (by my thumb in the photo) on my waistbelt is rubbing holes on the backpack. Disaster! After talking to my brother in law I realized that I have things to fix it, at least temporarily, duct tape and a large dcf patch. When I found the holes I was distraught to say the least and didn't think straight.
I turned the bag inside out and found three holes. One is very small and not visible in the photo.
I used duct tape over the holes on the outside and over the Velcro and it feels like it might be fine for some time. After turning the bag the right way again all that was left was to insert the stays/frame and add the waist strap. The stays wouldn't go back in! I know that they are difficult, but I've never done it myself, I'll have to pack them separately. Tomorrow is a short-ish walk, it will be interesting to see how it works without the stays!
